Archives for “Education”

For this last episode of the first series, I would like to summarize the Archive -Practice proposition by way of some observations, which will also suggest the direction for the next phase of development. The first section of the proposition was developed through constructing dialogs and relations made by my interviews with people whose work represent different practices within the Armenian contemporary art field.

Crossing-views onlineThis fourth post is a part of my third episode. The interview I made with Marianna Hovhannisyan, a young curator and co-editor of this blog, questions the topic she chose as it is connected to the notion of identity and representation through online positions. By choosing this methodology Marianna proposes a definition of history, memory and archive, through taking a position of acting on it by the interviews about education and collaboration. She expresses that this process of archiving can help her to have a reflection on what is her role in the ongoing contemporary art and curatorial practice in Armenia.

Migration for Education - Student projectThe third part of Archive-Practice considers the Armenian Open University, Department of Fine Arts. Since the second part of the 1980s it was one of the spaces in Yerevan which was providing an alternative for the discussions, meetings and realization of different artistic projects, as well as focusing on Armenian contemporary art developments. In 1998 it transformed into a more official space, as Department of Fine Arts which continued to provide a unique type of art education.

Interview with Ruben Arevshatyan.

The listener - Armine Hovhannisyan These weekly posts will set up a dialogue within certain concrete practices in contemporary art which are trying to develop an alternative process of archiving. They will consider the process of archiving related with the present underlining the importance of the concrete practices and initiatives in the specific art situations and contexts. One aim of the process of archiving is to have an input and responsibility in terms of an educational and pedagogical sense, which will be examined as a tactic against the gaps in history and as a bridge between generations.
