Archives for “Archive”

Crossing-views onlineThis fourth post is a part of my third episode. The interview I made with Marianna Hovhannisyan, a young curator and co-editor of this blog, questions the topic she chose as it is connected to the notion of identity and representation through online positions. By choosing this methodology Marianna proposes a definition of history, memory and archive, through taking a position of acting on it by the interviews about education and collaboration. She expresses that this process of archiving can help her to have a reflection on what is her role in the ongoing contemporary art and curatorial practice in Armenia.

Voyage en URLThis article is about Collectif 1.0.3 and their multimedia work called Voyage en URL. Voyage en URL invites us to a mental trip, “a peregrination into the flow of our navigation”, made by software’s downloading (available for windows and mac) picking up and archiving, as a dynamic process that traces our drifts from one URL address to another. Here there are no palpable maps or territories but a poetic vibration which represents a digital portrait of our wanders in the spiderweb, as a virtual representation of a train of thought by the web.

Migration for Education - Student projectThe third part of Archive-Practice considers the Armenian Open University, Department of Fine Arts. Since the second part of the 1980s it was one of the spaces in Yerevan which was providing an alternative for the discussions, meetings and realization of different artistic projects, as well as focusing on Armenian contemporary art developments. In 1998 it transformed into a more official space, as Department of Fine Arts which continued to provide a unique type of art education.

Interview with Ruben Arevshatyan.

International Summer School of Art Curator, Yerevan, Armenia. 2007During my posts, I will develop this Archive-Practice research proposition by focusing on four experiences based in Armenia. Each offers a concrete situation made interesting by their particular problematic and history. The second episode considers the International Summer School for Art Curators in Yerevan, which since 2006 is organized yearly by AICA Armenia.
